ABC The tall ships are heading to Sydney for the Navy’s centenary celebrations. The fleet of tall ships which has been in Hobart for the past five days has now set sail for Sydney.
Tasmania’s Governor has been saluted in a sail past by the eight ships, accompanied by a local flotilla.
They arrived in Hobart on Friday, attracting thousands to the city’s historic waterfront.
This morning they lined up with local yachts and heritage vessels, before heading out of the River Derwent.
Hundreds of people on the waterfront and at other vantage points on both sides of the shore watched the parade, led by the Young Endeavour.
Canons were fired during a salute to Governor Peter Underwood.
The tall ships are making an eight-day voyage to Sydney, where they will join other tall ships and warships for the Royal Australian Navy’s centenary celebrations.
